Core specification differences
VIVIDSTORM lists its PRO Slimline at 0.6 gain with a 170° viewing angle and 84, 92, 100, 110 and 120-inch options. Elite Screens lists the Starling Tab-Tension CLR 3 at 0.8 gain, 170° and 101- or 121-inch 16:9 sizes. Elite also specifies up to 90% overhead-light absorption for CLR 3.
A higher gain can preserve more on-axis brightness, while a lower-gain directional surface can prioritize perceived black levels and rejection behavior. The useful result depends on your projector output, room light and seating position—not the gain number alone.
Control and automation
Both product families emphasize automated operation. VIVIDSTORM’s current retailer listing includes RF/buttons/apps, voice-assistant control and USB-trigger compatibility. Elite lists RF/IR control and both wired and wireless 12V trigger options for the Starling CLR 3. If you are integrating with an automation system, confirm the exact control hardware included with the size and regional SKU you plan to buy.
Sizing can be the deciding factor
Elite’s 101- and 121-inch sizes are slightly different from the more common 100/120 convention. VIVIDSTORM offers more intermediate steps. If your room maxes out near 110 inches, that extra VIVIDSTORM size can matter more than any optical spec. If you have room for 121 inches and prefer Elite’s control ecosystem, the Starling is a very direct alternative.
Installation planning remains critical
Both products put a long cassette above the image and rely on tab tensioning. Verify case length, bracket positions, top drop and outlet location before buying. UST optics magnify small alignment mistakes, so the strongest installation is the one whose geometry you can plan precisely before the screen arrives.
