Lenticular versus Fresnel
The VIVIDSTORM PRO uses a UST ALR/CLR lenticular structure and is listed at 0.6 gain with a 170° viewing angle. Formovie specifies its 100-inch Fresnel screen at 1.0 peak gain, at least 85% ambient occlusion and a 50° viewing angle.
Fresnel structures can reject light from more directions while concentrating usable projector light into a narrower viewing cone. Lenticular UST screens usually provide a much wider horizontal seating window. The better approach depends on room light direction and where people sit.
Fixed frame versus retractable
A fixed screen has fewer moving parts and can maintain a consistently tensioned surface. Its disadvantage is permanent visual presence. A motorized drop-down adds mechanical complexity but can free the wall when the theater is off. In multipurpose living rooms, that architectural difference often outweighs small spec changes.
Brightness and seating
Formovie’s listed 1.0 peak gain can be useful when screen brightness is at a premium, especially if viewers sit inside its narrower optimal cone. The VIVIDSTORM’s 0.6-gain, 170° design gives more latitude to wide seating. If your sofa wraps around the room, viewing cone deserves as much attention as ambient-light rejection.
Size flexibility
Formovie’s referenced Fresnel model is 100 inches. VIVIDSTORM covers 84 through 120 inches. A room that needs 110 or 120 inches therefore makes the format decision easier. Conversely, a room designed around exactly 100 inches can choose based primarily on light direction, aesthetics and moving-parts tolerance.
